Located on the hilltop beyond the beach, Avoca Weekender sits snugly within sloping topography while maximising its coastal outlook. A carefully balanced and curated organic palette highlights tactile materials – adjustable timber louvres and screens brace the external façade to control privacy from the road, sunlight, and directing views to the headland.

An elegant and slender steel framework support a grid of masonry walls, showcasing an open plan living layout on the upper floor. This provided a flexible and collective approach to cooking, dining and entertaining, such that all areas feel spatially and visually connected.

This connection to the outdoors continues, as the living space opens to an external veranda. Sitting under deep eves, and sharing the same polished concrete floor finish, a seamless porosity expands the interior space, bringing it outdoors.

The kitchen island benchtop cleverly hides the stairway down to the lower level, where a master bedroom, two double bedrooms and two bunk rooms allow up to 14 to stay at any one time – fun for the whole family.

Ultimately, the house provides a peaceful and healthy environment with a refined yet robust design sensibility, not afraid of wear and tear, not too precious or over detailed. Where everyday living is a joy, and even simple functions give one pause to reflect.
