Fluid Apartment highlights the best of site-specific accessible design – an intuitive response to the Iconic location and unusually shaped building. A large open, light-filled space, achieved by containing all wet areas, services and storage within curvilinear joinery walls that undulate to sculpt the space. A creamy white palette counteracts the low ceilings, with highlights of copper and timber milled from the resident’s collection of fallen 200-year-old trees, bringing richness and sophistication to the space as they patina and age with time. The client had very specific accessibility needs relating to mobility, which strongly influenced the design concept and evolution of the built forms. Furniture and joinery were custom designed to provide improved accessibility as well as accommodate therapeutic requirements.
